Our Services
At Midwives Bay Area, we offer personalized, evidence-based care for families seeking home birth with a licensed midwife. From prenatal visits to postpartum recovery, our midwifery services are designed to support you physically, emotionally, and spiritually through every stage of the journey.
We provide in-home and office-based prenatal care, skilled support during labor and home birth, and gentle postpartum visits—including lactation support from an IBCLC. Whether you’re in Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont, or beyond, we bring expert home birth care to you with presence, intention, and heart.
Prenatal Care
Rooted Guidance from the Very Beginning
Your care with us begins long before labor starts. From the very first visit, we take time to truly get to know you, your questions, your hopes, your fears, your vision for your birth.
We meet you either in one of our two cozy locations—Berkeley or Lafayette—or come to your home for the highly anticipated birth team meeting. Each visit is unhurried, allowing us to check in on your baby’s development while also tending to your physical and emotional well-being.
We talk about everything from nutrition and movement to herbal support and how to navigate the unknowns of this transformative phase in a woman’s life.
You’ll receive all the clinical care you’d expect—labs, blood pressure checks, and the pitter-patter of your baby’s heartbeat—but our focus is on how you’re doing, how you’re growing, and how you’re preparing. We walk beside you as your body, your baby, and your life begin to transform.
Labor & Birth Support
Birth at Home, Surrounded by Support
When labor begins, you don’t pack a bag or rush to a hospital. You stay in the space you’ve made your own. We come to you.
Your midwife arrives with quiet confidence and clinical readiness. We bring everything needed to monitor the safety of you and your baby while also honoring the sacredness of your birth space. Whether you want to birth in a tub, in your bed, or moving freely through your home, we support your body’s natural rhythm without rushing or interfering.
There’s no fluorescent lighting. No unnecessary interventions. Just warmth, trust, and skilled hands nearby.
If something needs extra attention, we’re trained and equipped to handle it or transfer care quickly. But most of the time, we simply support you while you do what you were built to do.
Care That Doesn’t End at Birth
Our care doesn’t end when your baby arrives—it continues as your family finds its rhythm.
In the days and weeks after birth, we visit you in your home to check on your healing, your baby’s growth, and your emotional well-being. We weigh your baby, help with feeding (Shannon is a board certified lactation consultant), assess how your body is recovering, and offer space to process your birth experience if you wish.
We’re not in a rush. We’re not checking boxes. We’re here to listen, guide, and make sure you’re supported as you step into this new chapter.
Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, postpartum can be intense, beautiful, and unexpected. We stay close during those early weeks so you’re never left wondering, “Is this normal?”
Postpartum & Newborn Care
Comprehensive Support, Tailored to You
Because birth is more than physical care, we offer connections to trusted collaborators in our community; doulas, pelvic floor therapists, herbalists, acupuncturists, bodyworkers, and more.
These practitioners aren’t just names on a list—they’re part of our extended care team. We refer only to those we trust and would use ourselves.
Whether you need support with anxiety, guidance on herbs, or someone to prepare postpartum meals, we help you find the right fit.
